SUWANNEE RIVER VISITOR CENTER

FARGO, GEORGIA

The 5,000 SF visitor center, located along the remote banks of the Suwannee River, provides opportunities to study one of the most intriguing areas in Georgia. The facility includes exhibit space, audio / visual classrooms, a registration area and gift shop. Visitors can learn more about Native American and early settlers who made their homes in the area, as well as the indigenous alligators, turtles, raccoon, black bear, deer and 223 species of birds. This facility is the first DNR project to receive LEED certification, having attained gold status. As such, it serves as a model for future facilities, with its sustainable building materials and design elements that are exposed, labeled and easy for visitors to examine.
